Finding Haven House

We (my husband and I, that is) had always dreamed of living on a lake -- but like many people, we also assumed that the lake house dream would be WAY out of reach financially. Until...one day about 5 years ago when we found an affordable house for sale on a small lake just 15 minutes from our original home!

This dreamy lake house was on 3 acres of land (!), included 110 feet of frontage, and although the house was dated, it was nothing we hadn't tackled with our first home.

Well, needless to say we were salivating at the chance to live out our lake house dreams...BUT while we were hemming and hawing about putting our first home on the market to finance the dream, someone else had the audacity (read: good sense) to buy the dreamy lake house right out from under us!!! Grrrr - don't you just hate it when that happens?

Happily, in hindsight the dreamy lake house that got away did a very good thing for us: It put our lake on the radar. So, for 5 long years I watched and I waited. Not only is our lake very small, but there are only about 14 houses in total that have lake frontage. This is because across the lake there is county land which is not buildable. As you can imagine those who live in this glorious place are not anxious to part with their own dreamy lake homes.

Then, on December 5th, 2019 it FINALLY happened. I saw a real estate listing on our lake. Even better, no pictures were posted which I took as a sign that I would not have to fend off hoards of other lake house hunters.

We contacted the list agent and were the first to walk through the house with her, that was on Saturday, December 7th 2019. On Monday, December 9th we officially put in an offer...and thus kicked off a trying battle to purchase Haven House.

As they say "all's well that ends well" and on Valentine's Day in 2020, we officially closed on a one acre parcel with 249 feet of lake frontage that also came with a hovel that I now call Haven House. Ever since, we started pouring our blood, sweat, and tears into a full on transformation. Welcome and I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I plan to.

Haven house is a raised ranch, built in the late 1960s - brick lower level, cedar shake upper level. 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms.

The cedar tree sadly had to go...and you're about to see why.

Lake view.

Thanks for reading. Stay tuned for the rest of the story...
