After almost 3 years, we finally achieved the updated kitchen we had been hoping for. Woot!
From this vantage, you can see the Ikea island and pantry cabinets that we added. Also, please notice the updated appliances including the just-barely-visible dishwasher (under the coffee maker).
Before I get into estimated project costs, I want to mention that this kitchen would not have been possible if we hadn't hired a contractor, structural engineer, and designer to help us remove the L wall that had previously separated the kitchen from the dining and living rooms. I wouldn't even know where to begin in terms of guessing at how much of the contract price was devoted to installing the ceiling beams for clear-spanning, so I'm just not going to include that at all.
We also kept all of the original cherry cabinetry and the granite countertops on the perimeter of the kitchen. Since cabinets and countertops are such a huge part of the kitchen renovation cost, keeping some of the high quality items already here when we moved in helped to make the update more affordable.
