Here we are in December 2020! We've been in Haven house for *almost* one year. Unfortunately, we had some hard news that is likely to impact the timeline of our remodel -- well, "life is life". We are extremely thankful for the infrastructure upgrades we just completed and we continue to work on Haven House. In light of the extended remodel timeline, I am doubling down on affordable projects that will make an impact now. Here's what I have come up with so far:
Throughout the main living level
-Update light switches/ outlets and light switch/ outlet plates (check)
The "gray" spare bedroom
-Paint the room, trim, and doors (check)
-Add some wall decorations (check)
-Remove the old entertainment stand to create more space (check)
-Replace the headboard (check)
-Mount the new curtain rod and add curtains (check)
-Paint the vinyl window and window trim white
-Paint the vent covers white to match the trim (check)
-Add a bamboo shade to the window
-Add an ottoman/ storage bench to end of bed
The "beige" spare bedroom
-Add the old entertainment stand to create storage in the closet (check)
-Switch out pillow covers with some neutral colored/ soft ones
-Mount the new curtain rod and add curtains
-Add a bamboo shade to the window
-Get a new rug
The main bathroom
-Switch out the vanity top with something white and quartz (check)
-Switch out the hardware, faucet, and towel holder with something in a matte black (check)
-Refinish the vanity (check)
-Hang the towel hook rack (check)
-Add some wall decor
-Add no-slip stuff under the rugs (check)
-Paint the trim repose gray (check)
The living room
-Whitewash or otherwise paint the brick fireplace (check)
-Paint the vent covers white
The kitchen
-Paint (check)
-Add backsplash
The master bedroom
-Finish the accent wall with board and batten (check)
-Refinish the dresser we use for the entertainment stand
-Replace the ceiling fan with one that has a remote control
-Paint the inside of the lampshades
-Add a bamboo shade to the window
The linen closet
-Add shelving back (check)
-Organize (check)
The hallway
-Replace or update the 2 flush mount lights (check)
-Add a runner
The lower level bathroom
-Gut and start over
The laundry room
-Get a new pressure tank and relocate to laundry room
-New flooring
-Paint
So, nothing earth shattering here, and all told, even the most expensive project could be done for appx $2,500. I'll keep you posted with updates as they come in.
I think that the board and batten in the master bedroom is going to be first up...
Oh also, for anyone else who sometimes feels discouraged at the progress of their own house project, hang in there! There's always something to be done. Focus on that instead.
