The Plan

If you have read just about any of my posts, you know that the Mr. and I want to remodel our home. We spent a long time (several months) mulling over the concept. We needed some time living in the house to determine what might be the most important items to prioritize. Also, we needed to scour the internet for some inspiration.

Eventually, we landed on a concept that we both felt comfortable with. Here are the goals we are trying to achieve with our remodel project:

(1) Improve the curb appeal/ exterior look of the home

(2) Enhance the lake view from inside the house

(3) Add more space

(4) Remove the kitchen walls dividing the main living space

(5) Add an island for more storage and additional seating

(6) Add a dishwasher

(7) Make the smallest spare bedroom bigger

(8) Allow for a front-facing deck

Although we were resistant at first, we decided to work with a designer and I am so happy we did! Let's first refresh your memory, this is the exterior look of the house as it exists today.

Now, let's see what the house will look like in a post-remodel world.

Wowsa! She looks little different, no?

Let's check out what is changing on the main living level.

Please take furniture placements as mere suggestions. We aren't even 100% on the fireplace placement at this point.

Ok, now let's look at the lower level.

Basically, this is a home extension addition with an opposing roof. The remodel will add approximately 350 square feet to each level of the home. However, because of the reclaimed fireplace and landing space -- we will actually realize more square footage than just what is being added. Exciting stuff.

However...everything comes at a price. We don't anticipate being able to build until the spring of 2022 and the rough guess we have as to cost has this project running in the $120,000 - $150,000 range.

In a post COVID world, lumber and labor for home improvements is pricey AF. We do, however, think that it will be worth it in the end. As we continue saving our pennies, we also work on things we can change today. Sometimes it is nice to focus on where you can impact change, so the smaller projects are keeping us going until we can make the remodel dream a reality.
