Hallway Reveal

Fresh off our success with the master bathroom we (read: I) was inspired to take on another project. You see, all throughout the house we have builder grade hollow core interior doors. This is especially prominent on the main living level -- there is a single narrow hallway that benefits from no natural light. Needless to say this hallway was looking dark and dated.

I was also hesitant to spend a lot of money on new interior doors because eventually the remodel will happen and when it does, I anticipate that there will be dust everywhere. Thus, we will think about forever doors sometime much later.

In the meantime though, I wanted to update the space.

Thanks to the internet and pinterest, I saw a post whereby a clever person added some lattice board and paint to her interior door and it seemed to make a big difference. So, I decided to follow suit and see what happens. Let's check out some pics....

This is one of our interior doors before we did anything.

Here are several of them all right next to each other in our sad, dark "before" hallway.

So, we began the update process by adding lath board to the doors to create some dimensionality, then painting them to to drive a lighter look. Finally, we updated the door knobs to complete the transformation. The color is Sherwin Williams Repose Gray.

This side-by-side shot gives you some context to compare against.

And...here is our dark hallway today!

Admittedly, the hallway is still narrow and we have no plans widen it or to add natural light. However, to me -- these small changes made a big difference.

By the numbers -- again rough estimates (as always) to update 7 doors:

2 bundles of lath board: $35.00

Paint: $25.00

Door knobs: $70.0
