Ok, after a long wait. I finally have a construction post and I can even include pictures! Our project broke ground on Friday March 11, 2022.
First, they excavated and set the footing forms.

The footing forms were covered and left for the weekend.

On 3/14 the footings were poured.

On 3/15 the footing forms came off and the foundation wall forms came up and the walls were poured.

On 3/18 the inspector gave approval and the crew was able to backfill the foundation. The pic below is the back filled foundation, there is some plastic sheathing down to try and keep some of the wet away.

Typical spring weather delays. Work resumed on 4/18 and rough framing began. First floor walls were erected. In the below picture, note you can see the French door frame and two 5x5 window frames on either side. This will be our new walk-out lower level, with a lake view.
The running joke is that we currently have a fantastic dumpster view, what is that -- a 15 yarder? File that under "joys of renovation".

Side view. From this vantage you can see the new "front door". Someday, with any luck there will also be a front facing deck that will serve to protect this entry from rain/ snow, etc.
We went out 14 feet from the original structure. Something about the span of something being 14 feet? Our original, more modest thought was to go 10 feet -- but since the materials cost was negligible between 10 and 14, why not go big.
